Rashida Jones In Alberta Ferretti – 2011 Emmy Awards

May 20th, 2012 by admin | No Comments | Filed in fashion

Rashida Jones attended the 2011 Emmy Awards tonight.

The gorgeous actress chose a strapless dusty pink Alberta Ferreti gown with tulle detail and a sweetheart neckline.

Her dress is cinched with a pink belt and was accessorized with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels.

Rashida finished her look with dark makeup including deep red lips and kohl-rimmed eyes.

She wore her hair in an updo with her bangs swept to one side.

I’m in love with her beautiful feminine dress but find myself on the fence with her dark makeup.

On the one hand it looks great with her hair but on the other, it feels too heavy for such a light, pretty look.

Kate The Great

Hollywood sends the fashion world plenty of pretty envoys. See: Kate Bosworth. But for all the popularity the fetching L.A. native enjoys among the frock-makers, a lot of moviegoers still know of her as the surfer babe from Blue Crush. With Straw Dogs, the designer darling is hoping to ride a new wave. Bosworth plays a struggling actress who moves back to her hometown in Mississippi with her husband (James Marsden), where she strikes up an uneasy reacquaintance with an old flame (Alexander Skarsgard). Like the 1971 Sam Peckinpah film it’s based on, Straw Dogs unfolds in an atmosphere of sex-inflected menace; it also contains a pivotal rape scene, which has been the focus of most of the buzz around the remake.“A lot of people ask me about the rape scene, which was sort of challenging,” Bosworth explained at last night’s Tribeca Grand premiere. “But what was equally challenging was tracking the tension that the characters are going through.”Bosworth also helped put together her character’s wardrobe, and it seems her stylish sensibility was a hit with the suits. According to director Rod Lurie, “The head of the studio, Clint Culpepper, is also a big fashionista.”—Darrell Hartman

Michelle Williams in Oscar de la Renta – 2011 National Board of Review Awards Gala

May 19th, 2012 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in fashion

Towards the end of 2010 Michelle Williams seemed to only wear white or ivory dresses, but she’s started off 2011 adoring black.

The ‘Blue Valentine’ actress attended the 2011 National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City last night wearing an Oscar de la Renta dress from the Spring 2011 collection.

Her black guipure embroidered dress with nude underlining is classic Oscar de la Renta in that it’s a timeless stunning creation.

The dress has a tulip skirt, square neckline and cap sleeves, but it’s the added femininity via the black satin bow around the waist which perfects this look.

Christian Louboutin ‘Ole Ole’ satin platform pumps and a matching black satin Salvatore Ferragamo clutch complete this stunning look.

lily gilding, manhattan style

May 17th, 2012 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in fashion

From film to print, the inner lives of Manhattan socialites have, of late, been much mined for fictional gems. Last night, at the Elie Tahari boutique on West Broadway, the social registry was busting at the seams when Tinsley Mortimer, Lydia Fenet, Jennifer Creel, Emmy Rossum, and Christian Leone toasted writer Tatiana Boncompagni on the occasion of the release of her new book, Gilding Lily, about a girl of humble beginnings who finds love, but no levity, in New York high society. “I wanted to write a book that would appeal to a woman who’d seen her body go through a lot of transformation because of pregnancy,” said the chestnut-haired former Wall Street Journal reporter, who is married to vacuum cleaner heir Maximillian Hoover. “I’d just had my son; I felt really down about myself. And my writing career had sort of stalled and I just decided to write a story based upon my life. But my life is not as fabulous as the one in the book. My life would be boring for readers, so I had to sex it up a bit, make it a little bit more juicy.” The boutique was swirling with well-wishers and Boncompagni was wedged into one corner, signing copies against a full-length mirror. A friend—yet another—emerged from the throng toward her. “Oh my God, Leah!” she shrieked. “You gorgeous thing!” Kisses. “You’re the gorgeous thing!” Boncompagni complimented her back.

On The Gossip Girl Set With Leighton Meester In Moschino & Blake Lively In Georges Chakra

May 17th, 2012 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in fashion

Whilst I should be getting some shut eye after a day of Couture shows, I couldn’t sleep without bringing you this.

Leighton Meester and Blake Lively looking adorable in Paris whilst filming “Gossip Girl”.

You’ll remember that GG ended with the girls headed off to the French capital on vacation, and it looks like our favourite Upper East-siders are having a ‘bon’ time.

Leighton – as Blair Waldorf – opts for a colourful cherry and apple print Moschino Spring 2010 bubble hem dress paired with a light blue beret, whilst Blake – as Serena Van der Woodsen – wore a Georges Chakra Spring 2010 Couture dress.

You should recognise Blake dress as Jennifer Lopez wore this strapless nude Chantilly lace dress with a Swarovski crystal cage corset to the Us Weekly Hot Hollywood Style Issue Event back in April.

Instead of a sexy face – à la Lopez – Blake paired her dress with a grey blazer and a nude hat.

Love both looks.  They are both so so cute, but you know I’m crushing on my girl Blake.

I never thought her look would work as a daytime outfit.

Sidewalk Style: Evan Rachel Wood In Roland Mouret

May 16th, 2012 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in fashion

A glamorous-looking Evan Rachel Wood was spotted departing the Chateau Marmont hotel and restaurant in West Hollywood on Saturday night.

The starlet who is rumored to be in the running for Tom Hooper’s upcoming film adaptation of the award-winning musical ‘Les Miserables’, wore a Roland Mouret ‘Edith’ Spring 2012 dress.

Her navy dress a cascading ruffled detail and cropped short sleeve cardi has red leather tulip print appliques.

Those red details were played up by her stand out red accessories which include an Edie Parker clutch and bold red lip colour.

Which of Evan’s weekend looks do you prefer?

Preen or Roland Mouret?

It’s Roland by a long way for me. In fact it is my favourite look from this weekends events.

Celine To Move Into Mount Street, Bernard Arnault Takes An Interest In Maxime Simoens, And More…

May 15th, 2012 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in fashion

London’s Mount Street, which has seen a recent influx of luxury retailers, will welcome a Celine shop in the coming months. The LVMH-owned label closed its only London location back in July 2009, shortly after the appointment of creative director Phoebe Philo. [Vogue U.K.]Maxime Simoens may have parted ways with French label Leonard earlier this month, but LVMH’s Bernard Arnault is reportedly investing in the young designer’s namesake line. Arnault’s usual acquisitions include international luxury brands such as Bulgari, which LVMH purchased last year—which makes Simoens an interesting investment choice. At this time, WWD could not obtain further details. [WWD]For the alternative bride, Topshop has announced a bridal collection designed by Richard Nicoll. Though no photos have surfaced, the collection is set to hit stores in June. Don’t expect too many girlish frills from Nicoll. [Grazia Daily]Art-world phenom Damien Hirst reportedly customized a baby monitor for Victoria and David Beckham, whose daughter Harper Seven is now eight months old. Experts say the monitor is valued upwards of £10,000, which means it might just be the most expensive baby monitor in existence. [Daily Mail]

A Home Away From Home For Alexander Wang—Not To Mention His Many Fans

May 14th, 2012 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in fashion

Yesterday couldn’t have been more ideal for Alexander Wang to introduce his first flagship store to the world. With a bright and clear weather report, a rather heavenly sunlight streamed through the massive windows into the 3,500-square-foot space, and it was warm enough for a few fans to gather on Grand Street and gawk as the designer chatted with journalists.Wang was, of course, inspired by the airy nature of the Yohji Yamamato store that previously occupied the space, and he had a couple other favorites to inspire him as well. “I respond to a store like Barneys where it’s very breathy and you have these sophisticated installations, but there’s still humor,” he said. “And the old Helmut Lang store on Greene Street was pretty iconic to me. I just loved the gallery feel of it.”In fact, like Lang’s store, the front area here, which has a ceiling-high black metal cage and marble display cubes, is reserved for installations, exclusives, and special collabs. Currently the cage is covered in baby’s breath (yes, baby’s breath, get into it), the so-wrong-it’s-right idea of florist Jeff Leatham, who worked with Wang for the opening. Inside is the Betony Vernon jewelry that came down the runway a few days ago.Designed by architect Robin Kramer, the chilly white marble interior is warmed up by touches of glowy antique brass, inlaid in those marble cubes and long tables. And there’s an inviting carpeted square of relaxation in the center, dominated by the by-now world- (or at least blog-) famous black fox fur hammock. (The black leather lawn chair there might not be as sexy, but it’s also quite cool.) “I knew I wanted it to feel like our living room, just a place where people can hang out,” said Wang. “I don’t want it to be such a strict retail environment. I want people to feel like they’re coming to my apartment to shop.” In a way, they are, since decorator Ryan Korban is the aesthetic force behind the store as well as Wang’s home and showroom. And in that vein, Wang also personally chose the playlist for the first week, a mix of the Pharcyde, vintage Dr. Dre, Dru Hill, and Die Antwoord. With all of his lines and accessories on display, including a capsule of five black leather pieces made expressly for the opening, consider it a full immersion in Wang world. As for those fans, since Wang’s studio and apartment are both minutes away, and his brother lives right upstairs, they can expect to see him there pretty frequently.Alexander Wang is now open at 103 Grand St., NYC.
